Elizabeth Preston – Blessings (1979)
[From ‘Bohemian Bagatelle‘, published 1979 by the Bohemians]
BLESSINGS
The trees, the flowers, the raindrops,
The sun upon the sea,
The waves, the sands, the starlit sky,
Are beautiful to me.
The snow upon the branches
Of winter’s leafless trees,
The sparkling frosted window-pane,
Are a delight to me.
The sound of someone singing
Whose voice is rich and true,
The music of an orchestra,
I find these lovely too.
But better, far, than anything
Is the warmth of human love,
A hand stretched out in friendship
Is a blessing from above.
