Pamela Chitty – I am (1979)
[From ‘Bohemian Bagatelle‘, published 1979 by the Bohemians]
I AM
I am the fox that runs on the hill,
I am the hounds that bay for the kill.
I am the babe unborn in the womb,
I am the crumbling bones in the tomb.
I am the past, the future, the now,
I am the why, the when, and the how.
I am the start, the middle, the end,
I am the straight, and I am the bend.
I am day, I am night, I am dark, I am light.
I am rich, I am poor, I am peace, I am war.
I am the sweetheart, the lover, the brave,
I am the jailer, the prisoner, the slave.
I am the flower, the grass, and the rock,
I am the dove, the fish, and the flock.
I am the earth, the fire, and the seas,
I am the sky, the wind, and the trees.
I am the stars, the moon and the sun,
I am the all, and I am the one.
I am youth, I am age, I am joy, I am rage.
I am he, I am she, I am you, I am me.
I am.
